 DMK Rescue Spay/Neuter Fund Update
In response to a breeder surrender of approximately 600 intact ferrets, the AFA created the DMK Rescue Spay/Neuter Fund. This fund was set up in an attempt to offer some financial relief to the shelters who took in these ferrets. Donations are still coming in and shelters are still applying for reimbursements. This Fund was initiated with a $2,500 contribution from the AFA. The AFA wishes to extend its gratitude to those individuals and organizations who've so generously donated to this fund. To date, donations from the ferret community have resulted in an additional $2,151.75, bringing the Fund total to $4,651.75. Lisa Vible, AFA's Education Director, has been working very closely with shelters to help them with their paperwork for reimbursement submittals. To date, the AFA has received and approved $1,465 in reimbursement requests, and we expect to receive additional requests in the near future until this fund is depleted. The following shelters have submitted and been approved for reimbursements:
Shelters across the U.S. are bursting at the seams with ferrets. The addition of approximately 600 intact ferrets has stretched them even more to their limits. We encourage everyone to please donate to your shelter of choice and when the time comes to add a ferret to your family, please consider adopting from your local shelter.
